Dr. Preset. DJ, producer, sonic storyteller.

One person. Many names. A single practice built from Hilversum outward — electronic composition, live remixing, and image-making as one unbroken signal.

— Preset as constraint

Every parameter is a decision.

The name is not a shortcut. In modular synthesis a preset is the map before the territory — a set of constraints that forces invention inside the frame. Dr. Preset works that seam.

Luc van de Steeg grew up in Hilversum, the broadcast capital of the Netherlands, where signal flow was infrastructure. The machines were always on. He learned to listen to them as language.

Electronic composition, live remixing, and fine-art photography are not separate outputs. They are the same conversation routed through different channels — the alter ego holds all three.

The Man Behind the Machine

Dr. Preset is the alter ego of Luc van de Steeg,
Residing in Amsterdam-Weesp, Netherlands based musician, born in Hilversum 1960.
The family house used to be a Radio-lab for Philips, before we lived there.
Queen Wilhelmina made there the first inter-continental Dutch phone call from there.
"Hello Bandung, Holland here"...
(My father was a buyer for Philips PTI. )

Shaped by the era when sound and the world went online.
His mixes move trough Techno, EDM, Jazz and Funk, Hip Hop and Reggae Dub,
not as a compromise, but as a statement.
Music doesn't live in one box, neither does he.
Before the decks, there was a microphone of a different kind, years as a Talk Radio
host in the Netherlands, with his own show called "Nightflight".
Broadcasting in NL and most parts of EU.

Luc also has a lifelong obsession with what sound can do to a room.
Today, Dr. Preset bring that same energy to his studio and gigs.
His works spans original production, curated mixes, and a growing catalogue of releases, including the 2025 album "Blind Spot".

His expertise reaches beyond music: AI, professional photography, film, video, also marketing are all tools in the kit. Because in 2026, Dr Preset,
an artist who only makes music is leaving half the story untold.

The characters Dr Preset, DJ Shopfie are his home-made 3D objects,
and used as a logo /avatar. Variations later on, made with AI.
